Tooth Extraction in Kutztown, PA

Saving your natural teeth is always the first goal at Kutztown Dental Center. Sometimes, though, removing a tooth is the healthiest option. Dr. Nick Patel provides tooth extractions for patients in Kutztown and the surrounding Berks County area, and will always explain why an extraction is recommended and what your other options are before any treatment begins.

When a tooth may need to be removed

  • Severe decay or infection that cannot be repaired with a filling, crown or root canal
  • A tooth that is cracked or broken below the gum line
  • Advanced gum disease that has loosened the tooth
  • Impacted or partially erupted wisdom teeth
  • Crowding, where removing a tooth makes room for others

What happens at your appointment

Dr. Patel will examine the tooth and take an X-ray to plan the extraction. The area is numbed with a local anesthetic before the tooth is removed, so you should feel pressure rather than pain. Afterwards you will be given clear aftercare instructions to take home.

Aftercare

  • Bite gently on the gauze provided to help a blood clot form
  • Avoid drinking through a straw, smoking and rinsing hard for the first day
  • Stick to soft foods and chew on the other side of your mouth
  • Call us at 610.683.7112 if bleeding, swelling or pain does not improve

Replacing a missing tooth

If a tooth is removed, we can talk you through ways to replace it, including dental implants, dental bridges and dentures.

If you have a painful or damaged tooth, contact Kutztown Dental Center to book an appointment.
